Why Soprano and Bass?
Amber Evans, soprano and Sam Zagnit, double bass are confluss – two musicians with a like-minded ethos to commission and perform new works for the evocative melding of the seemingly antithetical, yet easily divergent timbres of the soprano voice and the double bass. Convergence is a key part of the duo’s ethos, setting future plans to form educational programs, composer think-tanks, and international commissioning projects to compile a catalogue of works dedicated to weird/unusual/rarely used instrumentation. As a versatile ensemble, both members are well-versed in all styles of music, with the focus on the new and unusual, and dabble in the gray area between theatre and concert music. Currently based in New York City, the duo has performed in multiple venues around New York, including Areté Gallery, Spectrum, and Merkin Hall at Lincoln Center.
